How Sunny's Car Wash CRUSHED Its Grand Opening

March 20, 2025

In this video, discover how Sunny's Car Wash in Davis, California, partnered with DRB's SUDS marketing consultants to achieve remarkable early success and spread joy in their community.

Transcript:

My name is Evan Lyon. I'm the general manager of Sunny's Car Wash in Davis, California. The first day we were open, we washed 997 cars. It was extremely busy. It really showed me that we made the right choice in getting into the car wash industry but also that we made the right choice in partnering with SUDS.

Sunny's Car Wash has been open for six months. We are a family-run business, and our philosophy or mission statement here is to spread joy in our community, Sunny actually comes from a family dog of ours, and we originally wanted to do kind of a dog-themed car wash, but after working with SUDS' designers, we stumbled upon this sun logo that really captured our mission statement of spreading joy. We love it! Our community members, kids especially, they love our stickers and just having that little sun logo everywhere.

SUDS was able to help us so much as an operator, just taking some things off of our plate. You know, we didn't have to worry about the marketing and how to get the message out. Everything from where the signage was located, what the signage says, how your menu is laid out, these are all decisions that they helped me make with data and actual real-world examples behind it to justify why we were doing what we were doing.

Our go-to-market campaign was extremely successful with Suds, everything from the mailers, the digital advertisements. In less than three weeks we had over a thousand members sign up for our monthly unlimited plans, so it was extremely successful. SUDS was instrumental in helping us develop our pricing strategy, everything from comparing us to competitors in our area but also understanding that our focus was to try to be a step above some of those and making sure that our pricing aligned with that.

To any operator looking to invest in SUDS, I definitely would do it. From an operations standpoint, to have somebody who's an expert in their field take care of the marketing and ensure that you're going to have people showing up that first day that you open really takes a lot off your plate so that you can focus on how your car wash is actually going to operate.
